The Department of National Defence (DND) generously covers our mandatory training costs and provides essential uniforms. Additionally, they support a variety of enriching programs, including gliding, aircraft maintenance, the Effective Speaking Program, the Power Pilot Program, and the International Air Cadet Exchange. This invaluable backing significantly alleviates our program expenses.
However, to fully realize the potential of our squadron activities, each unit relies on its Squadron Sponsoring Committee (SSC) to raise vital funds each year. These funds are crucial for covering operational costs such as rent, optional training activities, band equipment, trips, and a variety of exciting events!

We're excited to share that on Saturday, September 7, and Sunday, September 8, 2025, our amazing Cadets, Staff, and Squadron Sponsoring Committee came together to host a fantastic fundraising booth at the Cabbagetown Festival! We had a blast raffling off Raptors tickets generously donated by Cardinal Funeral Home and spinning the prize wheel, which was a big hit with everyone who stopped by. A heartfelt thank you to all the wonderful volunteers and visitors who supported 818 Squadron! Your enthusiasm and generosity make all the difference!
Tagging is a traditional fundraising method where cadets solicit donations from the public outside local businesses, often in exchange for a paper tag as a token of support. These two annual events, one in the spring and one in the fall, are the primary fundraising mechanism for many local squadrons. The funds raised are crucial for supporting various aspects of the program not covered by government funding, such as equipment, transportation, facility costs, and extracurricular activities. We believe in the power of participation, which is why every cadet is encouraged to take an active role in our fundraising initiatives, known as "tagging." Tagging not only empowers cadets to contribute to our fundraising efforts but also serves to educate the community about the incredible opportunities provided by the Air Cadet program. Together, we can make a difference and ensure a bright future for our squadron!
A huge thank you to our local businesses and generous community for supporting our squadron!
